Juicy beef goulash, fresh chicken, or a hearty pork schnitzel: When shopping, our customers can expect a wide variety of fresh meats. Highly trained employees at REWE International AG ensure quality and freshness—from skilled butchers to our apprentices to the specialists in the deli departments. In 2019, a fully automated meat processing plant covering 35,500 square meters was opened in Eberstalzell, Upper Austria. Using highly efficient technologies and adhering to the most modern standards, the plant in Eberstalzell processes exclusively Austrian raw materials into meat products. The fresh meat is cut, sliced, and packaged on-site. This ensures that BILLA, BILLA PLUS, and ADEG stores are supplied with approximately 400 fresh meat items as well as frozen products. In addition, the raw materials for up to 200 types of sausage products are delivered to our sausage processing plants. The sausage products are stored in seven fresh-meat warehouses before being transported to the stores.
Warehousing & Transportation
Highly Complex, State-of-the-Art Logistics
Fresh goods, delivered at the right time and in the right quantities: that’s what our sophisticated warehousing and transportation system guarantees. The approximately 3,000 employees at REWE International Lager und Transport handle the logistics. They manage and move 372 million order units annually, ensuring the optimal use of the truck fleet as well as the storage and timely distribution of goods. The logistics concept meets the highest standards in terms of quality, delivery service, and sustainability. We have one of the largest truck fleets in Austria: Our 330 trucks cover approximately 18.5 million kilometers per year and carry about 65 percent of the total transport volume. The remainder is outsourced to third-party companies. From our ten central and regional warehouses, more than 2,500 stores can be reached quickly and directly.
We have one of the largest truck fleets in Austria: Our 369 trucks—including nine electric trucks—and 207 trailers cover approximately 18.5 million kilometers per year and carry about 65 percent of our total transport volume. Approximately 700 drivers are on the job at ten logistics locations throughout Austria. The remainder of the transport volume is contracted out to third-party companies. From the ten central and regional warehouses, more than 2,500 stores can be reached quickly and directly.
