Social Engagement

As an internationally active retail company, we support various projects focused on creating opportunities for children and young people through strong, long-term partnerships and the dedication of our employees. The BILLA non-profit private foundation “Blühendes Österreich” is committed to preserving local biodiversity.

Social Engagement

NextGen Buddies

NextGen Buddies – together we grow is a program launched in 2010 by BILLA, Caritas Vienna, and the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) to promote educational equity. Every week, students meet with children and teens from disadvantaged backgrounds to learn, play, sing, and participate in sports together. Everyone benefits: The children gain mentors who help them develop their talents. The students broaden their horizons, take on responsibility, and gain insight into new ways of life.

Rounding up works wonders

Small actions, big impact—rounding up purchases helps provide medical care, baby and school supplies, support with living expenses, and access to learning cafés for children. You can round up the total of every single purchase at BILLA, Penny, and BIPA stores, as well as at BILLA Kaufleute stores. Each purchase is rounded up to the nearest 10-cent amount, and as a jö Bonus Club member, you can also set up “Permanent Rounding Up.”*

*The “Permanent Rounding Up” feature can only be activated on your jö card at BILLA stores operated by Billa Aktiengesellschaft.

Food as a Valuable Resource

In 2025, BILLA donated more than 9,662 metric tons of food—equivalent to approximately 23 million meals*. Nearly every BILLA and BILLA PLUS store in Austria has at least one charitable partner to which food is donated. The social organizations with which BILLA collaborates range from Team Österreich Tafel of the Red Cross, the social markets of SOMA & Partner, and Caritas to Die Tafel Österreich, as well as various regional food banks and local social organizations.

*Calculation of meal equivalents: 0.42 kg of donated food is equivalent to approximately one meal

Austria in Bloom

Blühendes Österreich is committed to protecting Austria’s natural environment and preserving endangered animal and plant species. Biodiversity measures lay the foundation for a resilient agricultural sector and help ensure a continued supply of locally grown fruits and vegetables in the future. Together with over 300 project partners, approximately 1,600 hectares of valuable natural areas have been preserved, restored, or transformed into near-natural habitats since 2015.
