BIPA supports initiative against domestic violence

The week from the 6th to the 11th of December is dedicated to an initiative against domestic violence at BIPA. The number of acts of violence within the family - especially against women - has increased significantly in recent months.

To give just one example: in 2020, nearly 11,500 bans on entering and approaching were imposed by the police. (Source: https://www.aoef.at/index.php/zahlen-und-daten).

The causes are manifold - pandemic and lockdown are certainly among them. There are also more acts of violence during the Christmas holidays, which is why BIPA wants to set an example.

Often, the women affected do not know where to turn for help. BIPA takes this as an opportunity and prints all the necessary information on the cash register receipt reprint: the police emergency number 133 (0-24 hrs), the telephone number and website of the women's helpline 0800 222 555 (0-24 hrs), www.frauenhelpline.at and the website of the violence protection centre www.gewaltschutzzentrum.at. The QR code, which can be seen at the very bottom of the bon, takes you directly to the website of the Violence Protection Centre, where you can see the geographical location of the centres of the respective provinces at a glance. "We are implementing this campaign in all BIPA shops throughout Austria. We hope that we can make a small contribution and support women with the most important information when they urgently need it," says Claudia Baumschlager, BIPA Head of Marketing & Own Brands Strategy and Communication and adds: "Thousands of customers will receive the receipt with every purchase within the period. It is a simple but hopefully effective way to provide low-threshold information about the possibilities of help. The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In addition, BIPA will draw attention to the topic by means of social media postings and a bipa.me article in order to sensitise users on the internet. Because every woman can experience violence, regardless of age, level of education, religion and ethnic origin. This makes it all the more important for BIPA to break the silence about acts of violence against women and girls and to offer support.
