Just in time for the start of the year, the environmental protection organization Greenpeace took a close look at the selection in the area of regional superfoods at Austria's largest supermarkets. Quality criteria such as availability, the organic range and the origin of the raw materials were evaluated. BILLA and BILLA PLUS were ex aequo test winners with the best range and received the grade "very good" from Greenpeace. "We are very pleased to have won in the category 'regional superfoods'. This confirms our approach of focusing on lots of Austrian winter vegetables and organic quality," says a delighted Tanja Dietrich-Hübner, Head of BILLA Sustainability.
Regional energy suppliers at BILLA and BILLA PLUS
Customers find a colorful variety of products from the immediate region in all BILLA and BILLA PLUS stores throughout Austria. A total of 15 products were thoroughly tested as part of the market check. Flaxseed, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, oat flakes, golden millet, buckwheat, apricots and plums from the dry assortment, blueberries from the frozen assortment as well as sauerkraut, garlic, pumpkin and beet from the fresh assortment were evaluated - all of them in organic quality under the Ja! Natürlich brand. In addition, walnut kernels from the own brand BILLA Bio as well as fresh horseradish from the brand "Da komm' ich her!" and fresh kale were tested.
