Sustainable innovation along the corporate value chain

Through a comprehensive package of measures in the area of energy, climate and the environment, REWE Group in Austria is successfully working to use resources sparingly and efficiently. The goal is to minimize the impact on the climate and the environment in the process. In supermarkets, refrigeration and lighting are considered the largest energy consumers. Together, they are responsible for about 60% of the total energy demand. That is why REWE Group in Austria is particularly concerned with measures to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in these areas as part of its comprehensive sustainability program.

The hackathon "Corporate Coding for Sustainability" held a special challenge in store for the IT talents from higher technical colleges (HTL) and universities from Austria and Germany: The challenges set by A1 Telecom Austria AG, ProSiebenSat1PULS4 GmbH, Wiener Stadtwerke GmbH and us at REWE Group had to be overcome with a digital and sustainable solution in 48 hours. Martin Fluch, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of REWE International AGwas part of the high-caliber jury that judged the diverse projects and pitches, along with Michaela Huber-Kroneisl (Director Supply Chain Management - A1 Telekom Austria AG), Kornelia Pepl (System Administration for Document Management - Wiener Stadtwerke), Pia Seeberger (Senior Researcher - Blue Minds Company) and Fabian Knauseder (Director Digital Entertainment - ProSiebenSat.1PULS4).

"I was pleased to be part of the jury at the Hackathon at A1 Telekom Austria AG headquarters in Vienna.
