ÖIF Career Platform

Last week the career platform of the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) for displaced Ukrainians and people granted asylum was launched in cooperation with REWE Group Austria. During the event, the REWE recruiting team provided information about the diverse job opportunities within the company and the entry-level opportunities for people with limited German language skills. At the Group's headquarters, open questions could be clarified and job interviews held directly. More than 50 refugees and immigrants from ÖIF German courses took advantage of this opportunity. They were able to make personal contact with employees of REWE Austria and immediately apply for open positions. Christoph Matschke, CEO of REWE International, Sonja Ziganek, overall manager of integration programs at ÖIF, and Federal Minister Susanne Raab visited the career platform at REWE headquarters.

"Cultural diversity is in our corporate DNA and is what makes us successful. We currently have employees:ing from over 100 nations working for us. At the same time, we have around 3,000 vacancies, are urgently looking for workers and would like to take on more staff. People with a migration background are an important target group for us, whom we can integrate into society even better and faster by integrating them into our working life," says Christoph Matschke, REWE International AG Management Board member.

State certificate of quality berufundfamilie awarded again

The first certification with the berufundfamilie certificate dates back many years. Since then, there have been several re-certifications and many measures, all of which help to ensure that employees - 80% of whom are women - are able to achieve a good work-life balance. Federal Minister for Women, Family, Integration and Media MMag. Dr. Susanne Raab also welcomes the many measures implemented by REWE Group in Austria to always create an attractive working environment for all employees.

"We strive to create an attractive working environment for our employees that offers sufficient flexibility and, through concrete measures, helps to ensure that family and career are not a contradiction in terms. For example, we offer the following services, among others: Childcare on window days and during the Easter and autumn vacations at our head office (free of charge for REWE employees), Various KidsCamps during the summer vacations, Support in finding childcare through our cooperation partners, Cooperation with Schülerhilfe - discounted offer on lessons, Free advice on parenting issues through our EAP (Employee Assistance Program), Employee: inside discount, Crisis-proof workplace, Flexible working hours, Home office options, Piloting of flexible management models in part-time or shared management," emphasizes Christoph Matschke, REWE International AG Management Board member.

Women's advancement

The promotion of women and apprentices as well as professional equality between women and men are important concerns for REWE Group. Studies clearly show: mixed teams, with a similarly high proportion of men and women in management, are more successful and more productive. More than 50 percent of our stores are already run by female store managers. But like many other companies, we are confronted with an imbalance of women and men in top management positions. We are actively combating this and offer the "Women's Drive" program to specifically establish women in management positions. This training program is aimed specifically at women with initial management experience and offers targeted training for female managers, including accompanying mentoring. This program is designed to help bring together female and male perspectives. In the meantime, 80 women have gone through the development program.

"In order to be able to support our employees in their life phases in a targeted manner, we focus on dialog from the very beginning. Regular feedback meetings, annual development meetings, maternity leave meetings, onboarding and off-boarding meetings, etc., and fundamentally transparent communication around all topics of employee development and promotion are central elements and also an essential part of our living management and corporate culture," explains Veronika Rabl, Head of HR REWE Group Austria.

Individuality and Diversity

At REWE Group Austria, the recognition, appreciation and inclusion of people with disabilities are a matter of course. This is not only enshrined in the REWE Disability Charter, but is also reflected in our joint actions.

Since 2010, "Lernen macht Schule", a joint initiative of Caritas Vienna, the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and REWE Group Austria, has been the flagship project in terms of equal opportunities and support for socially disadvantaged young people. Each semester, more than 140 students from WU Vienna support around 260 children and young people in their academic and social development. The focus is on learning from each other, because students also build their skills by interacting with people from other social groups and cultural backgrounds. In 25 institutions, including houses for refugees, mother-child houses and learning cafés run by Caritas, the students assist the children and young people as learning buddies and now also BILLA-FK in doing homework, repeating school subjects, but also in leisure activities. The program also promotes the development of young WU students into socially responsible managers.

REWE Group in Austria assumes social responsibility on many levels

Social responsibility is an essential part of the corporate culture at REWE Group in Austria. A look at the numerous awards that REWE Group in Austria has received as an acknowledgement of the value it places on women, mothers and people with disabilities in particular shows just how much this is practiced on a daily basis.

Project "Round up, please": Involvement of customers

For 10 years, customers have been able to round up to the next 10-cent amount at the checkout, for example, thus supporting Caritas learning cafés and creating a low-threshold opportunity to donate money quickly (200,000 EUR raised in 2022).
