BILLA Box Wiener Neudorf: Opening of the first e-charging hub

On 16 December 2024, BILLA set another milestone in terms of sustainability: the first e-charging hub operated by SMATRCIS was officially opened at the BILLA Box in Wiener Neudorf. The location is strategically located on the A2 motorway just outside Vienna and offers customers an ideal combination of convenient shopping and fast charging for their electric car.

The BILLA Box in Wiener Neudorf is an innovative self-service concept with a compact range of over 1,000 everyday items. The newly installed 8 charging points enable a charging capacity of up to 400 kW and thus ensure a particularly efficient and fast energy supply. ‘With the new e-charging hub, we are creating a modern service experience that supports sustainable mobility and at the same time enables quick shopping in between. This innovation is another important measure in the implementation of our e-mobility strategy,’ explains BILLA CEO Robert Nagele.

BILLA drives the expansion of electromobility

With 144 e-charging stations and 444 charging points, BILLA is already a major player in the field of electromobility. 83 of these charging points are fast chargers (up to 400 kW). Around 50 more e-charging stations are planned by the end of 2025. ‘Our goal is to promote climate-friendly mobility at as many locations as possible and provide customers with the necessary infrastructure on their journey,’ says Nagele.

REWE Group in Austria has been committed to sustainability for many years and has set itself the goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2040. In order to achieve this together with its partners and customers, every detail counts - including the expansion of e-charging options. As a partner of the klimaaktiv Pakt 2030, REWE International AG is supporting the energy transition together with other companies. For example, BILLA, BILLA PLUS, PENNY, BIPA and ADEG use 100 per cent green electricity from Austria in their own stores.
