With the launch of the new single-use deposit system on 1 January 2025, Austria took an important step towards sustainable recycling structures. ADEG is now launching a nationwide donation campaign in 220 stores to strengthen social interaction. Customers can put their deposit receipts in a box after shopping and donate them directly to local organisations or associations that are personally selected by the retailers. ‘I am very pleased that we are not only making a contribution to recycling with this campaign, but also helping local organisations that are indispensable to our community,’ says ADEG retailer Werner Quehenberger from Annaberg in the Lammertal valley (Hallein district in Salzburg), who has chosen the mountain rescue service as a donation partner.

Achieving good things together

With this donation campaign, ADEG shows how recycling and social commitment can go hand in hand. ‘For me, this campaign is something very special because it shows how much you can achieve with small gestures. I think it's great that our customers are supporting local projects with their donations that really make a difference. This connection between people and local organisations makes our region even stronger,’ explains Georg Reithofer, ADEG retailer in Hainfeld (Lilienfeld district in Lower Austria), whose donation goes to the Hainfeld fire brigade. REWE Wholesale Managing Director Florian Klein is also enthusiastic: ‘The new single-use deposit system is not only an important step for climate protection, but also an opportunity to actively involve our customers in local aid projects thanks to this campaign. The fact that our retailers are putting so much heart and soul into this shows how deeply rooted they and ADEG's values are in the regions.’
