Strong women, strong regions: ADEG shop assistants as game changers in the communities

They are far more than just local suppliers, already manage over a third of ADEG stores and stand for sustainable change: ADEG shop assistants actively shape social and economic life in their communities. Whether through the promotion of regional producers, social commitment or sustainable initiatives - they set a strong example for their region every day.

Since November 2024, Tamara Tilger has been providing reliable local supplies with her newly built ADEG store in Unzmarkt-Frauenburg (Murtal district).

With a look at three impressive female entrepreneurs on International Women's Day on 8 March, ADEG shows how equality starts locally and what contribution they make to their communities.

Jasmin Gratzer from Weitensfeld: Regional ties in the fourth generation

Since January 2025, Jasmin Gratzer has been managing the ADEG store in Gurk (St. Veit an der Glan district) in addition to her store in Weitensfeld. She is thus continuing the family tradition in the fourth generation. ‘Taking over the store in Gurk is a particular pleasure because I grew up here. The familiar surroundings and the interaction with the people make this place unique,’ says Jasmin Gratzer. Her social commitment is evident in many different ways: She supports the volunteer fire brigade and local associations and works closely with farmers to reduce food waste. She also focuses on regionality in her product range: farmhouse bread, honey, dairy products and even Glundner cheese produced in-house offer customers the best quality from the local area.

Tamara Tilger: Styrian local supply with heart and delivery service

Since November 2024, Tamara Tilger has been providing reliable local supplies with her newly built ADEG store in Unzmarkt-Frauenburg (Murtal district). ‘It is particularly important to me that the people of Unzmarkt-Frauenburg have a shopping centre nearby where they can run their daily errands. In addition, we also focus a lot on friendly interaction,’ she emphasises. To accommodate older customers in particular, she offers her own delivery service on Mondays and Fridays - an offer that is appreciated and well received in the community. Her regional ties are also reflected on the shelves with numerous regional products: ‘Why source goods from far away when the best is so close by,’ says Tamara Tilger.

Anja Steinkasserer from Lienz: Focus on regionality and sustainability

Anja Steinkasserer followed in her father Werner Hanser's footsteps with the opening of her ADEG store in Virgen (Lienz district) in November 2023. ‘What I've always really liked about our ADEG store is the friendly atmosphere and the team spirit. People don't just go shopping, they exchange ideas. This creates an almost familiar atmosphere,’ says Anja Steinkasserer. Supporting local associations is just as important to her as focussing on regional products. Over 20 local suppliers provide her market with local specialities such as Schlipfkrapfen, smoked trout and grey cheese. Sustainable innovations are also on their agenda: modernised refrigeration technology and LED lighting reduce the store's electricity consumption, while the first ADEG self-service checkout in East Tyrol is an innovative step into the future.

Indispensable pillars of the communities

The stories of Jasmin Gratzer, Tamara Tilger and Anja Steinkasserer impressively show how ADEG shop assistants have an impact far beyond the sale of food. Not only do they ensure local supply in over a third of the 350 ADEG stores, they also actively strengthen the community and the economy of their region. REWE Wholesale Managing Director Florian Klein emphasises: ‘I would like to thank all the ADEG saleswomen who achieve great things every day through their tireless commitment to the regions and their passion for retail. They deserve recognition not only on International Women's Day, but also on all the other 364 days of the year.’
