REWE Group Austria: EHA supplies green electricity "Made in Austria" also to commercial customers

Since 2020, EHA Austria Energiehandels GmbH (EHA) has been sending a strong signal for the common goal #mission2030 of the Austrian Climate and Energy Strategy of the Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism and pays special attention to the fact that the green electricity used is only generated from wind and solar energy as well as small hydropower plants.

  • In 2021, REWE Group Austria will invest another two million euros in the expansion of its photovoltaic systems.

  •  As early as 2008, BILLA, BILLA PLUS, BIPA, PENNY and ADEG, as industry pioneers, completely switched to green electricity from EHA Austria Energiehandels GmbH (EHA) in all their stores.

  •  Since 2020, EHA has been supplying green electricity exclusively from wind, solar and small hydropower plants, and is also happy to do so to commercial customers

"#mission2030 - Made in Austria" as of 2020

Considering the many customer locations spread across the region, this scale is unique in this country - and represents a special electricity label. This guarantees: The origin of the green electricity and that no CO2 emissions or even radioactive waste was produced during generation.

"We are very proud that we can make an enormous contribution to the sustainable use of energy with the consistent use of green electricity."

Robert Nagele BILLA CEO Real Estate & Head of EHA Austria

"We are very proud that we can make an enormous contribution to the sustainable use of energy with the consistent use of green electricity and thus also take into account the goals of the #mission2030 of the Austrian climate and energy strategy. This makes us one of the pioneers in food and drugstore retailing. But we do not want to rest on our laurels, because climate change does not take a break either. There is still a need for immediate action - which is why we are planning more far-reaching investments in green energy for the next few years," explains Robert Nagele, BILLA CEO of Real Estate and Head of EHA Austria. For example, REWE Group Austria has around 90 photovoltaic systems with an output of over 5 megawatts, the number of which is to be continuously expanded. In 2021 alone, the Group will invest around 2 million euros in 25 additional plants.

Green electricity "Made in Austria" since 2008

In the provision of services, in logistics or in the operation of stores and branches - energy is needed everywhere. REWE Group Austria is committed to saving energy in all these processes and thus to protecting the climate, the environment and resources in the best possible way. In order to cover the remaining energy requirements in a sustainable manner, BILLA, BILLA PLUS, BIPA, PENNY and ADEG, as pioneers in the Austrian food and drugstore trade, have been relying entirely on green electricity since 2008.

EHA Austria supplies green electricity and energy know-how

Through professional consulting and the flexible adaptation of individual circumstances, EHA stands by REWE Group Austria as a strong partner in the implementation of climate goals. The company has been revolutionising the domestic energy market for more than 16 years and is one of the most renowned green electricity suppliers. Regardless of customer size, all EHA customers benefit from energy procurement at Group conditions. The company works with objective energy industry standards and a risk-minimising, multi-year procurement strategy. The prices are thus exposed to fewer market price fluctuations, which results in better plannability for all customers. In addition, EHA aims to undercut the average market price of a procurement period for its customers. EHA's energy industry support across the entire German-speaking region is particularly appreciated.

"For our commercial customers, our business model is a win-win situation: it not only results in planning security, but also saves costs in the long term. We are very pleased to be able to contribute our expertise in the cooperation with REWE Group Austria and together make a major contribution to nationwide green electricity in Austria," says Robert Nagele.
