At 90 locations in Vienna and Lower Austria, customers have been able to use the Too Good To Go app at BILLA and BILLA PLUS to reserve surprise boxes filled with food, pay for them and pick them up during a specified time window. Now the cooperation will be extended to all of the approximately 1,300 BILLA and BILLA PLUS locations in Austria from 26 September.

"As a food retailer, it is our duty to use the resources available to us responsibly and, above all, sustainably. Therefore, we have been implementing a number of targeted measures for years to avoid food waste in our stores as much as possible. The expansion of the cooperation with Too Good To Go is another important step and complements our previous commitment," explains Harald Mießner, BILLA Board Member for Sales.

A box full of surprises

What the boxes are filled with is a surprise. But one thing is for sure: the variety of products is as tasty and varied as the BILLA and BILLA PLUS assortment itself. It consists mainly of fruit and vegetables, baked goods, products from the dry goods range, milk and dairy products as well as individual delicacies. Vegetarian and purely vegetable items can also be included. The cost per cistern is 4.99 euros, which is a third of the original value of the goods.

Food waste is one of the biggest problems of our time, but also an important opportunity in the climate crisis.

"Food waste is one of the biggest problems of our time, but also an important opportunity in the climate crisis. I am very pleased that BILLA is seizing this opportunity and not only saving food in all stores with us at Too Good To Go, but also coming closer to the goal of zero food waste in the supermarket with many other initiatives," says Georg Strasser, Country Manager of Too Good To Go Austria.
