On site, families from the Vienna area had the opportunity to see with their own eyes in the field and on the farm where the vegetables come from that are then available on the shelves of BILLA, BILLA Plus, ADEG and Sutterlüty.

Climate protection made (easy) for children

The 50 or so young and old participants learned at various stations where their favourite vegetables from the supermarket come from and what exactly is meant by healthy soil. They also learned what tasks the numerous little helpers, such as earthworms, have in the soil. Together we went to the field with the Michaeler family's slow train and harvested vegetables. The participating families were able to examine the different layers of the organic soil profile through a glass plate in the soil. The harvest was then processed and tasted together. With exciting games about the healthy soil, the children, but also the adults, learned everything about vegetable cultivation and why biodiversity plays a major role in climate protection.

90 percent of our food comes from the soil

Fertile soil is closely related to climate and environmental protection, and healthy soil is the foundation of our food. As Austria's leading organic brand, Ja! Natürlich has therefore been concerned for decades to keep the soil in Austria fertile. Because what is good for the soil is good for biodiversity, is good for the quality of food and thus also good for us humans. "We want to create awareness that organic farming helps to keep our soils healthy and strengthen biodiversity. Because biodiversity and humus preservation are essential for an intact soil, which we urgently need if we and future generations still want to harvest valuable food," says Andreas Steidl, Managing Director Ja! Natürlich and agricultural expert at the Organic Farm Day. With the offer of the Ja! Natürlich Family Day at the organic farm, Ja! Natürlich wants to give people, and especially people who live in the city far away from any field or farm, insights into where the products come from, how they get to the shelf and who grows them.

We want to create awareness that organic farming helps to keep our soils healthy and strengthen biodiversity.
