This year, the annual "Women Empowerment Award" focuses on the female employees of PENNY. Because: women need role models and PENNY has a few of them to offer in the retail sector. PENNY employs 2,163 strong women who do impressive work every day. Their stories show that they are everyday heroines who deserve to be brought before the curtain.

On Friday, March 10, PENNY female employees, representing all female employees in the retail sector, were honored. Thanks to their constant commitment in the store as shopping support and advice for customers, as freshness heroes for fruit and vegetables, or as trained butchers, they prove every day what PENNY is all about.

Role Model Sara Kotb

A prime example of impressive women at PENNY is Sara Kotb. The Viennese woman with Bosnian-Arab roots spoke about career opportunities in retail and the unique team cohesion at PENNY in the panel "Outstanding Careers - the story behind great successes." She started her career with an apprenticeship as a retail saleswoman. At the age of 19, she was already in charge of 34 employees. But her ambition and the development opportunities at PENNY first made her a rayon manager and then, in 2022, a sales manager. Kotb is currently responsible for 82 stores and over 700 employees. She is one of the many, impressive everyday heroes who prove what PENNY is made of.

"I like to take on new challenges in order to grow from them. PENNY gives me the opportunity to continuously develop myself and also to pass on my knowledge to my colleagues. I am very proud to be part of the PENNY family," says Sara Kotb, PENNY sales manager.

Award-winning everyday heroines at PENNY

The training paths at PENNY are wide-ranging: apprentices, retail saleswomen, store or rayon managers are all part of the PENNY family. As the only domestic food discounter, there is even the opportunity to train as a butcher.

Blazenka P. started as a cashier at PENNY in 2008. After a short time, her talent was recognized and she has since taken over as store manager. As a mother of three children, she knows how many demands the job brings: "My job as a store manager doesn't seem particularly difficult from the outside, but it's a job with a lot of responsibility, demands a lot of courage and strength, which I'm happy to invest every day."

Ruth S. has also been part of the PENNY family for over ten years. After her maternity leave, she came back to PENNY and it didn't take long before she was offered the job as store manager: "It was a challenge at first, but I made it and my PENNY store is doing great."
