This year, Ja! Natürlich is particularly concerned with the topic of "healthy soil". This topic was also the subject of a course at the Children's University, where the young participants learned why diversity in organic soil is important and what tasks, for example, are assigned to the little helpers such as the earthworm in the soil. Due to their sustainable cultivation, organic areas have a higher humus content, which plays an important role in the fight against climate change. This is also confirmed by the 2021 study on climate protection and nutrition, which Ja! Natürlich and Greenpeace commissioned from the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL). This is because healthy soil can not only absorb more water, but also bind more CO2.
Klaudia Atzmüller, Managing Director of Ja! Natürlich, comments on the long-standing cooperation with the Vienna Children's University: "We are very pleased to have been working with the Vienna Children's University for many years and to contribute to enabling children to explore the fascinating connections between nature and science. At Ja! Natürlich, our focus is on preserving healthy soils, as biodiversity and humus conservation are crucial to maintaining fertile soils from which we and future generations can harvest our valuable food. The topic of climate and environmental protection moves the young participants of the Children's University very much, and they are interested in actively contributing to it. We are happy to support them in this!".
