BIPA is the first drugstore across Europe to join the already huge Too Good To Go community. "The responsible handling of food is an important point of our sustainability promise and so we see ourselves as an ideal Too Good To Go partner. The success has already been confirmed in a test phase in selected stores and therefore, as of September 6, we will be offering the Too Good To Go sacks in all of our approximately 600 BIPA stores," says Andreas Persigehl, BIPA management.
Save food at BIPA with the Too Good To Go app
With the Too Good To Go app, food can now also be saved in BIPA stores. The implementation is simple: The desired surprise bags can be reserved and paid for via the app. The choices are: Food Mix, Baby Mix, Fitness Mix and Drinks Mix. Food savers can look forward to healthy (organic) food, bars or snacks from the BIPA Food range in the Food Mix. In the Baby Mix you will find a wide variety of baby food such as squeezies, baby jars, porridges and much more. If you opt for the Fitness Mix, you will find protein powders and bars and/or various fitness shakes in the bag. And with the Drinks Mix, you can quench your thirst with ready-to-drink beverages and/or tea. Cosmetic products, detergents, cleaning products and hygiene products are excluded from the promotion. Since the surprise bags only contain what is left over, BIPA stores do not offer regular deals, but only according to availability.
Each surprise bag costs 2.99 euros and has a value of at least 10 euros. The pick-up times can be seen on the app and are between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. - depending on the store. At the branch, the reservation is shown on the cell phone, which is validated as picked up with a swipe, and the food rescuers receive their sacks.
"We are very pleased to have BIPA as a true pioneer in the app, showing us that food can also be saved in drugstore retail. Together with BIPA, we are opening up another segment and can thus expand our mission to new areas with even more impact. If we work together to significantly reduce food waste, we have one of the strongest levers against the climate crisis in our hands," Georg Strasser, Country Director of Too Good To Go Austria and Switzerland.
Non-food products continue to go to social markets
BIPA is aware of its responsibility towards society and therefore the cooperation with Too Good To Go to save food is only one of many measures taken. For example, BIPA has been actively working with social markets for many years. "Almost every one of our stores has a partner, be it the Red Cross, Caritas, the Austrian food banks or one of the numerous smaller charitable institutions, which usually collect non-food goods from us on a monthly basis. For foodstuffs that are close to their best-before date, we have now found a solution with Too Good To Go so that these products are not wasted either and get a second chance," says Andreas Persigehl. BIPA donated goods with a retail value of around 1.13 million euros in 2022. In this way, they are put to good use and help people in need.
