Eric Scharnitz, BILLA Sales Director, is delighted: "Following the opening on Vienna's Opernring in November, Palais Ephrussi is now home to another BILLA Corso store at an address steeped in history. When designing the product range, we wanted to take particular account of the needs of the surrounding businesses and their working employees as well as students studying at several nearby institutes. We look forward to providing them all with freshness, quality and variety!"
Focus on gastronomy "to go" and convenience specialties
Due to its central location, the market will in future be the place to go for students, professionals, residents and tourists in Vienna who are looking for fresh meals - whether on their way to university in the morning, at lunchtime or on their way home in the evening. The focus of the range is therefore primarily on convenience specialties such as freshly prepared snacks, sandwiches, smoothies and coffee to go. In addition, the BILLA Corso store offers a unique and wide selection of hot dishes, including plant-based options: "The range includes burgers, hot bowls, such as curry bowl "Korma" or chicken sweet and sour bowl, as well as poke bowls with salmon wasabi or chicken mango. We also offer our customers wok specialties such as chicken teriyaki with vegetables and basmati rice or noodle wok with Chinese vegetables. Pizzas, focaccia, pinsa, but also doner kebab and kebab are also available freshly prepared in the store," says Marie-Cecile Burck, store manager of the new BILLA Corso store. Viennese specialties such as the classic Leberkässemmel - including Gustl, the purely plant-based Leverkas - are also available at the hot counter at the new location.
Julia Weiss, a student at the University of Vienna, is also delighted with the wide range of products on offer at the new BILLA Corso at Schottentor: "The store offers a great selection for students. As well as a coffee 'to go', I also bought myself a breakfast on today's opening day. In future, I'm sure I'll be stopping by often to grab a snack between my lectures or a lunch."
In addition to the large "to go" range, the market is the ideal place to go for everyday products. In addition to a bakery and a fruit and vegetable section, the market offers coffee, jams, cereals, muesli and a wide range of dry goods, including various types of pasta and pesto. The range also includes Austrian specialties such as Mozartkugeln, as well as confectionery from regional producers such as Manner and Heindl.
Simple and climate-neutral delivery thanks to the BILLA Service Bike
True to the BILLA Corso motto, service is also a top priority at the new store: Customers can have their purchases delivered to their homes conveniently and climate-neutrally with the BILLA Service Bike. Delivery appointments can be arranged directly with BILLA Corso employees at the checkout before shopping or when paying. Delivery is possible from the inner city via Liesing to Klosterneuburg. After filling out the delivery bill, the groceries will be delivered by one of the drivers at the agreed time.
Historic Palais Ephrussi on the Universitätsring
The market is particularly impressive due to its historic location. It is located in the historically significant Palais Ephrussi, which was built between 1872 and 1873 according to plans by Ringstrasse architect Theophil von Hansen. The palace was home to the Café Hobinger and later the Café Bastei, which was regarded as the city's culinary meeting place. While past renovations increasingly disguised the architecture of the building, the original Hansen stucco ceiling came to light in the course of work on the new market location. Built in 1873, the ceiling is considered an architectural jewel. Together with the owner B&C Group, the restoration of the ceiling was financed and can now be admired in all its glory by customers during their visit to the market.
