PENNY in action for families in need: Winter poses particular challenges, especially for children from families in need, as it invites them to seek safety in the cozy company of their loved ones or their beloved cuddly toy on the couch. This is why PENNY is donating 700 cuddly toys to the Austrian Red Cross. The companions are made from 100% recycled material and are distributed to families and children in need as part of family packages. "The cold winter is a particularly difficult time of year for children in need. Together with the Austrian Red Cross, we are once again able to give the little ones a little bit of security this year and make children's eyes light up," said PENNY Managing Director Kai Pataky at the handover.
From a psychological point of view, cuddly toys play an important role for children. Above all, they promote empathy, socialization and self-healing. "Cuddling with cuddly toys is important for children and adolescents. That's why we are delighted that PENNY is once again donating cuddly toys for our family packages this year. PENNY and the Austrian Red Cross have been partners for more than ten years when it comes to supporting families in Austria," says Katharina Albrecher, Head of Education and Learning Programs at the Austrian Red Cross.
The PENNY Family Relief Fund
Together with the Austrian Red Cross, PENNY has been supporting families in need throughout Austria since 2011 as part of the PENNY Family Relief Fund. "We are all experiencing it right now. The most basic necessities have become almost unaffordable for many, but especially for families who were already on the breadline before rising inflation. All these families urgently need help. The PENNY Family Relief Fund supports them with targeted assistance," explains Kai Pataky, PENNY Managing Director. Around 2 million euros in donations have been collected so far. This has helped 5,362 families in need in Austria with 12,725 children.
The family packages of the WCC
The Austrian Red Cross supports people in health and financial emergencies. Financially difficult situations are particularly noticeable at Christmas time. That is why the Austrian Red Cross and its partners want to help these people. Playing Santa Claus and giving presents to people from disadvantaged families whose monthly budget has no room for special expenses. Showing charity at Christmas time and making children's eyes light up - together we can do it. A total of 5,000 family packages with food and consumer goods of a special kind will be put together. They will be distributed by the 122 Team Austria food banks throughout Austria according to need.
