111 tons of product donations: BILLA PLUS & Sutterlüty customers in action for social support on LEO & Lions Collection Day

On April 6, the LEO & Lions collection day took place in 117 BILLA PLUS stores and two Sutterlüty locations in Vorarlberg. Customers were able to hand over purchased food and hygiene products to the LEO and Lions teams on site. The product donations were made directly available to local aid organizations, women's shelters, social shelters and families and individuals at risk of poverty. More than 4,300 full banana boxes of product donations were collected.

In the spirit of neighbourly solidarity, 117 BILLA PLUS stores across Austria and two Sutterlüty locations in Vorarlberg became the scene of social commitment on LEO & Lions Collection Day. On April 6, the LEO and Lions teams called on customers in all participating stores to make donations - in particular, non-perishable staple foods that do not need to be refrigerated and hygiene products were in demand. The great results of the collection day are now available: More than 4,300 full banana boxes of product donations have been collected. This corresponds to a volume of around 111 tons.

Robert Nagele, BILLA Management Board member: “The LEO and Lions collection day at BILLA PLUS has become a tradition and makes an important contribution to supporting people at risk of poverty in Austria every year. We are delighted that BILLA PLUS and Sutterlüty customers generated around 111 tons of donations in goods this time and thus impressively demonstrated their social commitment. The success of this campaign shows once again how much impact social cohesion can have in our society. We are already looking forward to the next project with the LEO and Lions Clubs.”

1,100 Lions and LEO Club members in action at BILLA PLUS and Sutterlüty

On LEO & Lions Collection Day, around half of all Lions and LEO Club members in Austria were actively involved. They received the donations on site, packed up more than 4,300 boxes of bananas in the markets and handed them over directly to local aid organizations, shelters, women's refuges, social shelters and families and individuals at risk of poverty in their collection area.

For more than 100 years, the global Lions Club has been committed to supporting socially disadvantaged, sick and disabled people, helping children and young people and providing aid in disaster situations. In Austria, the first Lions Club was founded in Graz in 1952, and the club now has around 250 locations. Its independent youth organization, the LEO Club, has also set itself the task of supporting people in need.
