Hobby Lobby x Teach for Austria summer weeks: BILLA provides 180 children and young people with 1,620 free snack bags

The non-profit educational initiative Teach For Austria has been campaigning for more equal opportunities in education since 2012. Together with Vienna Hobby Lobby, they organise the annual Summer Weeks to support children and young people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds in their learning. This year, they took place from 22 July to 1 August in two Viennese schools, MS Hainburgerstraße in the 3rd district and MS Herzgasse in the 10th district, as well as WienZimmer Gartenstadt in Karl-Seitz-Hof in the 21st district.

Cecilia Cadman (Teach For Austria), Raphaela Friedl (Hobby Lobby), Sophie Wimmer (Fellow 2024, Teach For Austria), Stefan Weinlich (BILLA Sales Director) and Mariella Winkler (Teach For Austria) are delighted with the BILLA snack bags for the pupils as part of the Hobby Lobby and Teach For Austria Summer Weeks.

At each location, four groups of 15 children received free learning support in the school subjects English, German and maths. In the afternoon, the participants were offered a varied leisure programme - including football, basketball, acting and street art. The focus was not only on having fun, but also on strengthening and promoting the pupils' potential.

Healthy snack for 180 pupils

BILLA supported the campaign for the fourth time in a row and provided the 180 participating children and young people with healthy snack packs. Filled with snacks, fruit and muesli bars, these were freshly prepared every day by employees at the BILLA store in Markhofgasse/Schlachthausgasse (Landstraße) and at the BILLA PLUS stores in Jedleseer Straße (Floridsdorf) and Laxenburger Straße (Favoriten) and collected for the children by Teach for Austria employees.

BILLA Sales Director Stefan Weinlich visited MS Hainburgertraße as part of the Summer Weeks: "We think it's great that Teach For Austria and Hobby Lobby are working for more educational equality in Austria and are also supporting children and young people during the summer holidays. It was a great pleasure for us to support the project again this year by providing 1,620 snack bags for 180 children free of charge. This enabled them to make good progress in their learning."

Rosa Bergmann, Managing Director of Hobby Lobby, says: "We are delighted that BILLA has supported the Summer Weeks for the fourth year in a row. The healthy snack packs were the ideal refreshment for the participating children and young people. After the learning-intensive mornings, they were able to throw themselves full of energy into the afternoon programme of sporting and creative activities. We would like to thank everyone involved for their great support during the holiday weeks."
