Two years of BILLA PFLANZILLA: new animal-free cheese, price-reduced 3D salmon fillet and the oat drink is now “o'zapft!”

BILLA PFLANZILLA is not only the flagship project of BILLA's plant-based strategy, but also the central point of contact for plant-based enjoyment. Europe's first purely plant-based store of a traditional food retailer is celebrating its second anniversary in Vienna's Mariahilfer Straße. Customers will find over 3,000 purely plant-based products to discover and enjoy.

“In the first 32 weeks of the current year, 25% more plant-based meat products were sold in Austrian food retailers than in the same period last year, according to figures from NielsenIQ. The volume of plant-based dairy products increased by 11% compared to the same period last year. In terms of value, the two categories also grew significantly faster than their animal-based counterparts, with growth of 16% and 4% respectively. The new Austrian nutritional recommendations also illustrate how relevant plant-based enjoyment is. The focus is clearly on more plant-based foods,” says Verena Wiederkehr, BILLA Head of Plant-Based Business Development.

With BILLA PFANZILLA as well as the national range, BILLA and BILLA PLUS are in tune with the times. Wiederkehr: “For many people, plant-based enjoyment has become an integral part of their daily diet. This is also reflected in the figures from Statistics Austria. Within ten years, meat consumption in Austria has fallen by around ten percent. In terms of milk, every tenth pack sold at BILLA already contains a purely plant-based variant.” With more than 7,000 purely plant-based products, BILLA PLUS offers customers the largest selection in Austria. An enrichment of taste that is also good for the climate.

PFLANZILLA celebrates its birthday with new products and discounted 3D salmon fillet based on mushroom protein

Just in time for the two-year anniversary, customers can look forward to exciting new products from BILLA PFLANZILLA: a top seller at BILLA PFLANZILLA is the mushroom protein-based 3D-printed salmon fillet from Revo Foods. In line with the affordability of purely plant-based products, Revo's salmon fillet has been reduced from €6.99 to €3.99 and will be available from next week not only at BILLA PFLANZILLA, but also in all BILLA PLUS stores and in almost 400 BILLA stores.

Thanks to BILLA PFLANZILLA's new baking station, you can enjoy baked, purely plant-based bacon breadsticks, pizzas and much more. In addition to raspberry croissants, the ever-popular pistachio crookie is now also available in a purely plant-based version at the request of the BILLA community. Handmade in the local store, of course. Another new addition to the range is The Oater oat drink, which is freshly fermented and tapped on site and can be taken away by customers in a practical reusable glass bottle.

Another innovation at BILLA PFLANZILLA: animal-free cheese varieties from Formo

With the fresh cream “Frischhain” in the natural and herbal varieties, a new addition to the plant-based scene is moving exclusively into BILLA PFLANZILLA. The German start-up Formo uses koji protein, which has shaped Japanese cuisine for centuries, in its production. The protein, which is obtained through micro-fermentation, impresses with its texture and taste - and is kind to the environment. The products will also be available at BILLA PLUS from October, and the range will be extended to BILLA stores at the beginning of 2025 in time for Veganuary.

“For us at BILLA, it is already a tradition to support start-ups and innovations from the plant-based sector and to give them a big stage. I am particularly pleased that, with Formo, we are offering our customers innovative products with great taste just in time for our birthday. With the roll-out of the popular salmon fillet from the Revo Foods 3D printer to all BILLA PLUS and selected BILLA stores, we are setting a sustainable example for even more plant-based enjoyment,” says Wiederkehr.

On September 20 and 21, customers are very welcome to join in the celebrations for BILLA PFLANZILLA's second birthday. From 10:00 to 18:00, there will be free tastings of the wide range of products from Formo, Revo Foods, The Oater, Planted, Vegavita, BILLA Bio and Ja! Natürlich. One highlight was the prize draw for free shopping at BILLA PFLANZILLA. The five winners had 30 seconds to fill their BILLA basket with their favorite products.
