BILLA apprentices explore parliament

A visit to the Austrian parliament organised by BILLA this year was all about strengthening the team spirit among the apprentices. The excursion gave the apprentices the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of Austrian democracy and learn more about how political decisions are made. In interactive guided tours, the apprentices slipped into the role of elected representatives and developed a deeper understanding of the tasks and challenges involved in political work. This not only strengthened their sense of community, but also their understanding of democratic values.

Promoting a sense of responsibility

A central aspect of the excursion was to raise awareness of the responsibility of the individual in a democracy. The apprentices were given an insight into legislation and the influence of political decisions on the daily lives of citizens. ‘It is important to us to give our apprentices not only professional qualifications but also an awareness of their role as mature, responsible citizens who have knowledge of important political processes,’ emphasised Harald Mießner, BILLA CEO.

Timing before the bank holidays

The excursion was planned ahead of the bank holidays to emphasise the historical significance of democracy. On 26 October 2024, Parliament will open its doors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Open Day. Vienna has also been named European Capital of Democracy 2024/25, underlining its role as the political centre of Europe. With this excursion, BILLA is once again demonstrating that the focus is on the holistic development of apprentices - both as future skilled workers and as responsible members of society.
