BILLA brings the ‘ Echte Kärntner Bodenhaltungs-Ei’ to the shelves

With the ‘Echte Kärntner Bodenhaltungs-Ei’, BILLA and BILLA PLUS are expanding their range with a regionally produced product that is produced entirely in Carinthia, from the rearing of the chicks to the packaging of the eggs.

A group of nine people stands in a supermarket, each holding cartons of eggs. They are positioned in front of a display featuring egg-related products and promotional banners. The setting is bright, and the individuals are dressed in casual and business attire, smiling at the camera.

  • Regionally produced quality: BILLA and BILLA PLUS are adding the "Genuine Carinthian Free-Range Egg" to the offerings in their Carinthian markets, thereby strengthening regional agriculture

From their first day of life, the chicks are cared for on a Carinthian farm, where they grow into pullets. At 19 weeks of age, the hens begin laying eggs on Carinthian free-range farms. They are fed products from the mixed feed factory "Unser Lagerhaus WHG – Garant Qualitätsfutter," ensuring that the entire value chain remains in Carinthia. After laying, the eggs are packed at the Carinthian egg packing station "Eierring Herzogstuhl" and delivered directly to the retail sector. Even the resulting fertilizer is utilized locally.

“We are proud to offer our customers a product that stands for both regionality and sustainability. Through the complete value chain in Carinthia, we not only create transparency but also trust – our customers know exactly where their eggs come from and how they were produced,” explains Kurt Aschbacher, BILLA Sales Director in Carinthia and East Tyrol.

Strengthening the regional economy

In April 2024, the "Genuine Carinthian Organic Egg" was successfully launched on the market. Now, the "Genuine Carinthian Free-Range Egg" follows, further enhancing the product range of regionally and sustainably produced foods at BILLA and BILLA PLUS in Carinthia. This joint project makes an important contribution to regional value creation and supply security, and is characterized by an optimal ecological balance.

Astrid Brunner, 1st Vice President of the Carinthian Agricultural Chamber, emphasizes: “With the ‘Genuine Carinthian Free-Range Egg,’ we are sending a strong signal for regional circular economy and sustainability. The close cooperation of local businesses not only strengthens value creation in Carinthia, but also provides people with a product that stands for quality and short transport routes.” Dieter Obereder, Chairman of the Poultry Industry Carinthia, adds: “This project demonstrates what is possible when regional players work together. From chick to finished egg, everything stays in Carinthia – this is unique and a real added value for consumers who want to know exactly where their food comes from.”
