BILLA PLUS came top in the categories of animal welfare fresh pork, plant-based breakfast variety, nut nougat spreads and tomato ketchup. The company also achieved top rankings in other categories, particularly due to its wide range of organic products, for example in the seed and frozen vegetable categories.
Marcel Haraszti, CEO of REWE International AG: ‘This award is not only proof of our customers’ high level of satisfaction, but also of our success in continuously expanding our sustainable, climate-friendly product ranges. We are a pioneer in the industry in Austria, particularly in the area of animal welfare and plant-based. Our customers value transparency, sustainability and quality - values that we consistently integrate into our product range and with which we make an important contribution to a responsible lifestyle.’
Susanne Winter, Deputy Managing Director of Greenpeace in Austria: ‘The Greenpeace market check scrutinised eight supermarket product ranges in 2024. Consumers can thus recognise exactly which products on the shelves are produced in an environmentally friendly way and get help with their daily shopping. We congratulate BILLA PLUS on being named ‘Supermarket of the Year’ and will continue to work on making the selection on the shelves even more environmentally friendly in 2025.’
BILLA is a pioneer in fresh meat from Austria
More than four years ago, BILLA was the first domestic food retailer to make a clear statement in favour of domestic quality on the shelves: since then, BILLA has offered fresh meat - whether chicken, turkey, pork, beef, veal, game or lamb - exclusively 100% from Austria. With this decision, the food retailer guarantees the highest domestic quality standards when buying meat. In addition, the fresh meat counters in BILLA and BILLA PLUS stores only offer fresh meat in animal welfare quality. Under the organic brand Ja! Natürlich organic brand and the ‘Fair zum Tier!’ seal, the animal welfare range is also constantly being expanded. Thanks to the variety of measures, BILLA PLUS customers can now find the largest animal welfare range in Austria.
