Christmas for everyone: PENNY gives away 1,000 shopping baskets and helps families in need

Christmas is a time of joy, but not everyone is able to enjoy this season without worries. Under the motto ‘Christmas with Heart’, PENNY is joining forces with the Austrian Red Cross to send a special message of charity: from 1 to 24 December, the discounter will be giving away 1,000 free shopping trips to customers throughout Austria at random – the winners will find out directly at the checkout. In addition, PENNY and the Red Cross are supporting 24 families in difficult life situations so that they too can enjoy a wonderful Christmas, and are donating an additional 1,000 Schlafari cuddly cushions.

The partnership between PENNY Austria and the Austrian Red Cross has been in place for almost 15 years. The Austrian Red Cross's PENNY Family Aid Fund regularly supports families with children in Austria to make their everyday lives easier. In 2025 alone, an incredible €194,456 in donations was raised, a valuable contribution that directly benefits people in need. But that's not all: PENNY will also support 24 families throughout Austria who currently need special help – and enable them to enjoy a wonderful Christmas dinner with PENNY gift cards.

‘Christmas is a time when solidarity counts. With our initiative, we want to make exactly that visible: showing compassion, sharing joy and helping where help is needed,’ says Johannes Greller, PENNY Managing Director Austria. ‘With this wonderful campaign, we want to show that even small gestures can have a big impact.’

"In these challenging times, it is particularly important not to leave people in need alone. PENNY and its customers have been a reliable partner of the Austrian Red Cross for many years in supporting families suffering from poverty. With the PENNY Family Aid Fund, we have already been able to support more than 6,000 families and, above all, 14,000 children. The current initiative is another important sign of commitment and solidarity, for which we are very grateful," said Michael Opriesnig, Secretary General of the Austrian Red Cross, about the joint initiative.

In addition, PENNY is donating 1,000 cuddly toys from its current Schlafari loyalty campaign to the Austrian Red Cross (50 of which will remain at the Lernhaus in Vienna). The cuddly toys will be distributed throughout Austria in Red Cross children's and family projects.
