New prospects for self-employed merchants
With this step, ADEG is strengthening its role as a reliable partner for communities, especially in rural areas. ADEG is already the only local supplier in around 150 communities in Austria. The takeover of the former Unimarkt locations will ensure that local supplies of food and everyday products remain secure in the future. At the same time, existing jobs will be preserved and employees will be offered long-term prospects. Furthermore, the integration of the locations creates new opportunities for the newly minted ADEG retailers. The proven ADEG model focuses on entrepreneurial responsibility, regional product range design and fair pricing, including the comprehensive REWE own-brand range and close ties to community life. This not only strengthens the economic stability of the locations, but also promotes social cohesion in the respective communities in the long term.
Strengthening regional structures
ADEG Managing Director Florian Klein emphasises: "The takeover of the Unimarkt locations is a significant step towards securing sustainable local supply in Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Styria. I am very proud to officially welcome the new retailers – including six female retailers – to the ADEG family. They stand for entrepreneurial responsibility, regional ties and genuine commitment to their communities. Together, we will do everything we can to be there for the local people and maintain vibrant town centres. At the same time, it is very important to us to offer the employees affected reliable prospects for the future. For us, local supply means contributing to the quality of life in the regions. With these acquisitions, ADEG has reached another milestone and once again underlines its clear commitment to strengthening regional structures."
Attractive offers and fair prices
In addition to attractive offers, customers can expect the comprehensive REWE range at fair prices in the new ADEG stores. REWE provides its retailers with over 31,000 items from more than 1,100 suppliers, including popular and well-known own brands such as the organic brand "Ja! Natürlich‘, “clever” and the exclusive meat and sausage brand ’efef". ADEG retailers design their product range with individual local suppliers, always tailored to the respective customer needs. In addition, the independent retailers have access to around 200 to 500 regional products per federal state from the REWE wholesale range.
Securing local supply through REWE Group
The majority of the Unimarkt locations taken over by BILLA are also to be reopened by Easter 2026 at the latest. These are the stores in Gaspoltshofen, Neuhofen, Neumarkt im Hausruckkreis and Ort im Innkreis (all in Upper Austria).
