Arno Riedl has been working as an independent ADEG retailer for over 30 years. In 1993, he took over his first local shop in Preitenegg (Wolfsberg district); he now runs his 1,300 m² ADEG store in the EUCO Centre Wolfsberg, where he is supported by his son David and a dedicated team.

Award for exemplifying the spirit of entrepreneurship

For Arno Riedl, people are the focus. In his shop, he prioritises personalised service, a warm, friendly atmosphere and a strong selection of local produce. More than 80 local businesses supply ADEG Riedl with honey, yoghurt, vegetables, bread, fresh fish and meat products, amongst other things. “This award means a great deal to me because it is also a recognition of my entire team and my family. At ADEG, you can still truly embrace regionality and a close connection with the local community – that is exactly what makes my job so special to me,” explains Arno Riedl, an independent ADEG retailer.

A robust model for the future

In rural areas in particular, ADEG retailers make a significant contribution to quality of life. In around 150 localities, ADEG is the only local supplier, thereby ensuring short supply chains, social meeting places and regional value creation. With modern formats, hybrid stores and self-service solutions, ADEG stores are constantly being developed so that independent retailers can continue to operate successfully even in smaller communities.

Florian Klein, Managing Director of REWE Wholesale, emphasises: “Arno Riedl impressively demonstrates what ADEG stands for: personal responsibility, strong regional roots and a genuine understanding of people. His award as ADEG Retailer of the Year is more than well deserved. At the same time, this illustrates once again why our model is so strong. Independent retailers tailor their shops to their own needs whilst benefiting from the support of a strong network behind them.”
