In addition to its wide range of services, such as its own butcher and its diverse assortment, the brand discount store scores especially with fresh and regional fruit and vegetables as well as various measures in the area of sustainability. For example, the reusable fresh food net at the PENNY market stand promotes the reduction of plastic. Around 1.9 million Austrians regularly go shopping in the more than 300 shops.

"I am very happy about this award. It shows that we at PENNY have been turning the right cogs in recent years."

After the strongest year in terms of sales in 2020, PENNY will continue to convince Austrians with the best quality at a fair price in 2021. Only recently, the brand discounter was awarded the title of best discounter in the Retail Reputation Report - published by the Austrian Trade Association. "I am very pleased about this award. It shows that we at PENNY have been turning the right cogs in recent years. It is nice to see that our customers also perceive these measures as very positive," said PENNY CEO Ralf Teschmit.

Versatile service offers for customers

Among other things, PENNY is the only discount supermarket in Austria to offer the service of a personal butcher. In 216 shops, the trained butchers process pork and beef individually according to the customer's wishes, 100% of which comes from Austria and regional farms. In the PENNY bakery, customers can find freshly baked bread and pastries every day - from fresh cheese sticks and organic spelt buns to crunchy cheese crackers in puff pastry. All of PENNY's oven-fresh bread and pastries come exclusively from seven selected bakeries in Austria. Fresh fruit and vegetables await customers at the PENNY market stall - strictly checked by the PENNY freshness heroes and heroines. With its own brands "ECHT BIO!" ("really organic") and "Ich bin Österreich" ("I am Austria"), PENNY convinces with a diverse selection of local products as well as a large organic assortment.

Commitment to People and the Environment

Social commitment and sustainability are not neglected at PENNY either, which is why food is donated to charitable institutions within the framework of the "Food is Precious" initiative. With the PENNY Family Relief Fund, the discounter supports families throughout Austria together with the Austrian Red Cross and its customers. Last year alone, around 540 families and 1,436 children were helped in this way.

"We are particularly pleased with the positive feedback on social media and it shows that our commitment to people and the environment is valued."

PENNY is committed to protecting the environment and therefore refrains from selling fireworks. When it comes to fruit and vegetables, PENNY focuses on environmentally friendly alternatives. At the market stall, loose fruit and vegetables can be conveniently packed in reusable cotton fresh nets. In addition, the "Raus aus Plastik" initiative has already saved almost 40 tonnes of plastic since 2018. "We would like to thank our customers for their great commitment and their active support of our measures. We are particularly pleased with the positive feedback on social media, which shows that our commitment to people and the environment is valued. Gamification approaches such as GLÜCKS-PENNY have also been very positively received by our customers," says PENNY CEO Mario Märzinger.
