  • During a visit to Wiener Neudorf, REWE Group presents Infrastructure Minister Peter Hanke with plans for the new ALPHA logistics centre in Wiener Neudorf.

  • Over the next few years, the site will be transformed into a sustainable, innovative logistics centre with state-of-the-art storage technologies. The REWE Group is investing around 600 million euros in the construction of one of Europe's most modern logistics centres, making this the largest investment in the company's history to date.

  • Preparations are going according to plan: construction work is expected to begin on schedule in the second quarter of 2026.

‘Efficient and resilient trade logistics are crucial for Austria's security of supply and for sustainable economic stability. Projects such as the modern transformation of the ALPHA logistics centre show how innovative technologies, resilient infrastructure and sustainability can be combined,’ emphasised Peter Hanke, Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure, during the tour.

ALPHA: REWE's flagship retail logistics project

Over the next few years, the ALPHA logistics centre in Wiener Neudorf will become the heart of REWE Logistics in Austria and a flagship project for the 2030 logistics strategy. The REWE Group is investing around 600 million euros in the new construction of the site on existing, developed land by 2030, setting new standards for innovative, sustainable retail logistics with state-of-the-art warehouse technologies. In future, around 2,500 locations – particularly in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland – will be supplied from Wiener Neudorf.

"ALPHA represents progress and the future for us. With this innovative project, we are not only investing in the sustainable transformation of REWE Logistics, but also consciously in Austria as a business location and the region of Lower Austria. In Wiener Neudorf, we are creating a logistics centre that will secure supplies for this location for the next 30 years, as well as new, highly qualified jobs for future career profiles," says Marcel Haraszti, CEO of REWE International AG.

Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026

The implementation of Project ALPHA began in July 2025 with the official kick-off. In the first construction phase, initial demolition work has been successfully completed. Construction work on the first part of the new logistics centre is expected to begin on schedule in the second quarter of 2026.

‘Our logistics are the backbone of the daily supply of millions of people. With ALPHA, we are not only investing in state-of-the-art technology, but above all in resilience, efficiency and sustainability. Federal Minister Hanke's visit shows us that cooperation between politics and business is essential for Austria's security of supply,’ says Christian Hörner, Managing Director of Warehouse & Transport at REWE International AG.

"We are planning ALPHA as a forward-looking logistics centre – from building technology to warehouse processes. Step by step, we are pushing ahead with modernisation, paying particular attention to efficiency, energy consumption and operational safety. A fully automated high-bay warehouse with around 87,000 pallet spaces, modern robotics solutions for order picking and our own recycling centre for sustainable take-back and circular economy are central components of ALPHA – they increase efficiency and security of supply while reducing resource consumption and emissions," Isabella Handler, ALPHA Project Manager at REWE International AG.
