BILLA opens first training centre in Salzburg

With around 80 apprentices and 1,800 employees, the BILLA family in Salzburg is not only an important trainer, but also one of the largest employers in the region. In order to offer employees a personal and professional training and further education centre in the immediate vicinity, a new training centre was built above the BILLA store in Innsbrucker Bundesstraße 28 in the city of Salzburg, which enables training at the highest level.

Modern premises equipped with the latest technologies are available on an area of around 400 m² to practise realistic situations in everyday working life. The new training centre is the first in the BILLA family in Salzburg - and the 9th BILLA training centre in Austria.

"As one of the largest employers in the country, we also have a great responsibility towards our employees and apprentices. It is therefore important to us to offer top training and a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional development. With the new training centre in the region, our employees will become experts in their field," explains Hannes Gruber, BILLA Head of Sales.

"The new training centre is a great initiative and helps to further strengthen dual vocational training. Salzburg in particular is a stronghold for 'Karriere mit Lehre' (careers with apprenticeships). Almost every second compulsory school graduate in this country chooses an apprenticeship. And this is not least because there are more and more initiatives to strengthen apprenticeships," says WKS President KommR Peter Buchmüller.

Das neue Ausbildungszentrum ist eine tolle Initiative und hilft dabei, die duale Berufsausbildung weiter zu stärken.

Practical learning in the modern training centre

In the new training centre in Salzburg, BILLA and BILLA PLUS employees are given the opportunity to learn about the topics of food retailing in the most practical way possible. Various basic and refresher courses are offered in the areas of checkout, counter, bakery and confectionery, fruit and vegetables and meat. There is a large seminar room for internal and external training, a confectionery room where the decorating of cakes is practised, a computer room equipped with 21 terminals, a cash desk training room with a real cash desk and safe, and a counter training room. Here, the employees and trainees learn about the products on the one hand and how to use the technical equipment on the other. Special attention is paid in the training to providing customers with professional advice.

In our training centres, we impart the knowledge and skills that our employees need in order to offer our customers an optimal shopping experience.

"In order to keep up with the times and be fit for the future, it is essential to provide our apprentices with top training and to continuously develop the training of our specialists and managers at BILLA and BILLA PLUS. In our training centres, we impart the knowledge and skills that our employees need in order to offer our customers an optimal shopping experience," says Elke Peller-Kühne, BILLA Head of HR. Petra Reingruber, head of the BILLA training centre in Salzburg, adds: "With the opening of the new training centre in Salzburg, we have created an attractive training facility for our apprentices and employees from the region. Instead of commuting to another province for refresher courses and further training, they now have access to modern and well-equipped training facilities in the immediate vicinity."
