REWE Group Austria continues to invest in the future of apprenticeship training

With around 2,300 apprentices at BILLA, BIPA, PENNY, ADEG and the REWE Group central companies, REWE Group is one of the most important training companies in Austria and thus trains more than 15% of the apprentices in the retail sector. In the coming year, BILLA intends to take a pioneering step by creating 1,000 new apprenticeship positions. This will further expand REWE Group's range of stable and crisis-proof apprenticeships and jobs.

"With this step, we are not only underlining our commitment to promoting training and professional development, but are also actively helping to create prospects for young people. By training young talent, we as REWE Group can shape the future of the industry," says Marcel Haraszti, CEO of REWE International AG.

New initiatives to find apprentices - BILLA Transformer Tour and BIPA store visits

With the BILLA Transformer Tour, a new and innovative concept for finding apprentices was created last year. Under the motto "Turn apprenticeships into careers", BILLA embarked on a nationwide search for apprentices and toured the whole of Austria with the Transformer Truck. In the truck, interested parties received advice on all apprenticeships at BILLA and were able to take part in an escape game, among other things.

BIPA invites interested young people from polytechnic schools to take a taster tour of its stores. Under the motto "School meets BIPA", the pupils are given an insight into everyday store life, shown various tasks and given information about apprenticeships at BIPA.

Diverse training - from meat salesperson at PENNY to e-commerce clerk

REWE Group Austria offers a comprehensive range of 20 different job profiles and versatile training opportunities. The training fields cover the retail sector and include specialties such as food retailing, perfumery, delicatessen sales and the innovative field of "digital sales". REWE Group offers a wide range of apprenticeships, from food technician and operational logistics clerk to metal technology/mechanical engineering technician, system catering specialist, application development - coding or e-commerce clerk. Apprentice training is a high priority at PENNY. PENNY is currently successfully training apprentices in every third store nationwide. The only discount store with its own butcher also offers the opportunity to train as a meat sales assistant. Furthermore, apprenticeships with a school-leaving certificate, integrative apprenticeships and apprenticeships after the school-leaving certificate are offered in all training companies. After completing their apprenticeship, graduates have the opportunity to change companies as well as numerous opportunities for further training and promotion within REWE Group Austria.

"We offer young people varied tasks and opportunities for advancement in many different professions in which they can contribute and realize their potential. We are always on the lookout for the best minds and have a wide range of apprenticeships on offer," emphasizes Marcel Haraszti, CEO of REWE International AG.

Extras and bonuses for apprentices

Depending on the training company, apprentices are offered additional extras such as bonuses for special achievements, extensive training and further education opportunities, internships abroad, excursions, events, payment above the collective pay scale and much more.

Integrative apprenticeship

At REWE Group Austria, young people who would be unable to cope with the demands of an apprenticeship can complete their training in the form of an integrative apprenticeship. The integrative apprenticeship is adapted to the needs of the apprentices and offers them optimal training. Around 300 apprentices are currently undergoing integrative vocational training at REWE Group in Austria.

There is the option of an extended apprenticeship or partial qualification. If it is possible in principle to complete the apprenticeship, but it takes longer than planned, the apprenticeship can be extended. Currently, around four out of five integrated apprentices at REWE Austria make use of this option. If an apprenticeship certificate cannot be assumed, partial training can be agreed. The focus here is on certain areas of the job profile.

In 2024, REWE Group Austria will once again give around 900 young people the chance to start their careers through an apprenticeship. Applications can be submitted directly via the REWE International AG job portal https://rewe-group.jobs/.
