Press Release 3rd April 2024

LEO & Lions collection day on 6 April at BILLA PLUS & Sutterlüty

In the spirit of community togetherness, the LEO & Lions collection day is once again taking place in 116 BILLA PLUS stores and five Sutterlüty locations in Vorarlberg. On Saturday 6 April, LEO and Lions volunteer teams will be waiting for customers in the participating stores to accept donations for people at risk of poverty in Austria. The donation mode remains the same as in previous years: Customers can buy products in the markets and hand them over to the volunteers after the checkout area. The main items requested are non-perishable staple foods that do not need to be refrigerated and hygiene products. At the end of the day, the donations are taken by the club members to local aid organisations, shelters, women's refuges and social housing, where they are made available to those affected free of charge.

Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Governor of Lower Austria: "Campaigns such as the collection day organised by BILLA and the LEO and Lions Clubs are essential pillars for strengthening our social cohesion and prove once again that solidarity is the basis for living together. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who will be making an important contribution and doing good by shopping at BILLA PLUS on 6 April."

Robert Nagele, BILLA Management Board member: "It is important to us to support our society with a variety of initiatives and measures. Organising fundraising campaigns such as the LEO and Lions Collection Day are a matter close to our hearts. We have also been cooperating with LEO and Lions in favour of people at risk of poverty since 2014. As a food retailer, we are a daily point of contact for people in Austria and therefore the ideal platform to call for social commitment and fundraising. We look forward to many customers standing up for this on 6 April."

Ten years ago, REWE Group initiated the collection day together with the Lions Club, which has been organised almost every year since then. This year, the members of the LEOs and Lions will once again be working in 116 BILLA PLUS stores and five Sutterlüty locations in Vorarlberg to help people at risk of poverty in Austria and will be available to answer customers' questions on site.

Lions Club and LEO Club live social commitment

For more than 100 years, the globally active Lions Club has been committed to supporting socially disadvantaged, sick and disabled people, supporting children and young people and providing help in disaster situations. In Austria, the first Lions Club was founded in Graz in 1952, and the club now has around 250 locations. Its independent youth organisation, the LEO Club, has also set itself the task of supporting people in need. The Lions Clubs currently have more than 8,500 volunteer members throughout Austria, with more than 360 young people aged between 16 and 30 active in the LEO Club.
