Press Release 7th January 2026

BILLA and its customers raised €50,000 for people in need in Austria.

The mission to do good together accompanies BILLA throughout the year – especially at Christmas. Fundraising campaigns such as ‘Eine Spende, die satt macht’ (A donation that feeds people) in cooperation with the Austrian Red Cross's ‘Team Österreich Tafel’ and Hitradio Ö3 make an important contribution to this. As part of this, customers were able to donate directly at the checkout or via QR code in all BILLA and BILLA PLUS stores as well as at BILLA retailers until 31 December 2025 for people affected by poverty in Austria.

At a glance

  • BILLA is delighted with the tremendous commitment shown by its customers and would like to thank them for participating in this year's fundraising campaign, ‘A donation that feeds people’.

  • A total of 50,000 plates of hot soup were collected as donations.

  • The donations will benefit people affected by poverty in Austria in the form of basic foodstuffs and hygiene products and will be distributed directly to people in need via the distribution points of ‘Team Österreich Tafel’.

For the first time, the donation amount was displayed daily as the number of hot soup plates on screens and steles in the stores. Thanks to the great commitment of customers and an additional contribution of €5,000 from BILLA, a total of €50,000 was raised. This will be distributed in the form of basic foodstuffs and hygiene products via the distribution points of ‘Team Österreich Tafel’ directly to people in need in Austria.

Robert Nagele, BILLA CEO: "For BILLA, it goes without saying that we take social responsibility seriously. With our numerous initiatives and aid organisations, we provide quick and unbureaucratic help where it is directly needed. However, without our customers, this extensive commitment would not be possible. I would therefore like to thank everyone who joined us in our efforts and donated to “A donation that feeds” in our stores. This enables us to make an important contribution and help people in need."

Michael Opriesnig, Secretary General of the Austrian Red Cross: "More and more people are struggling with poverty – even in Austria. When Team Österreich Tafel was founded in 2010, we counted 600,000 pick-ups at distribution points each year; now that figure has risen to 1.1 million. The increasing poverty among people is a cause for concern. At the Red Cross, we support them wherever we can. Fundraising campaigns such as “a donation that feeds” make a valuable contribution to this. We would therefore like to express our sincere thanks to all those who support our work. Anyone can find themselves in a position where they are dependent on the compassion of others – which makes it all the more important that we look out for one another and stand up for one another."
