REWE Group Austria continues to invest in apprentice training

With currently around 2,300 apprentices at BILLA, BILLA PLUS, BIPA, PENNY, ADEG and in the central offices, REWE Group Austria is once again one of the leading training companies in the domestic retail sector this year and continues to invest in the training and development of its young employees. While the number of apprentices in the retail sector as a whole has fallen by 15 per cent since 2019, the REWE Group has taken on 19 per cent more apprentices in the same period. And apprenticeship positions are being filled on an ongoing basis – there are currently particularly good opportunities for apprenticeships in retail and confectionery.

At a glance

  • Around 2,300 apprentices are currently undergoing training at REWE Group Austria – contrary to the current downward trend, the number of apprentices continues to rise slightly, with a 19 per cent increase in apprentices taken on since 2019.

  • Apprentices are paid above the collective agreement wage and receive an additional monthly bonus of between €180 and €460.

  • A total of 20 different apprenticeships and various training concepts are available, ranging from apprenticeships with or after secondary school leaving qualifications to extendable apprenticeships or partial qualifications.

‘We place great importance on promoting young talent. A sound education is the basis for long-term prospects – both for our apprentices and for our company,’ explains Marcel Haraszti, CEO of REWE International AG. ‘We support our apprentices from day one and offer various programmes to ensure that they have the opportunity to pursue their own path within our company. These include further training and courses on the one hand, but also additional benefits that make their lives easier and allow them to focus on their training.’

Increase in apprentice income

REWE Group Austria is sending a clear signal of its appreciation for its apprentices by significantly increasing monthly apprentice income across the entire group. Depending on the year of apprenticeship, training company and apprenticeship occupation, the monthly bonus ranges from €180 to €460.

‘Young, motivated people are an asset to us as a company. Apprentices make an important contribution to our markets every day and deserve our utmost appreciation. Those who show commitment should also feel this in the form of fair and attractive remuneration,’ emphasises Lisa Köb, designated Head of People and Culture at REWE International AG.

From a wide range of specialist training courses and personal development seminars to REWE Group classes: a broad spectrum of training opportunities for apprentices, tailored to individual needs

Apprentices can complete a total of 20 different vocational training courses, including retail, operational logistics and modern apprenticeships in the IT sector. Close cooperation with vocational schools is a key factor in the success of the apprenticeship programme. The REWE Group classes have been in existence for 16 years now and create particularly practical training conditions through intensive cooperation between schools and companies. Extendable apprenticeships, partial qualifications, part-time apprenticeships and adult apprenticeships in the second educational pathway, which are individually tailored to the needs of the trainees, are also an integral part of the training concept.

The training programme is supplemented by numerous additional benefits, such as performance bonuses, stays abroad, targeted further training programmes and special events for apprentices.
