The sales figures prove that Krapfen are a popular treat in this country: In 2023 alone, BILLA and BILLA PLUS sold around 20 million doughnuts - most of them in Vienna. The traditional apricot krapfen - both the classic and mini versions - was also one of the best-sellers here. Both favourites are available at a reduced price this year compared to last year. This year, BILLA is once again focussing on products of Austrian origin in its Krapfen range.

Exceptional Krapfen creation with Leberkäse from Hofstädter

While the apricot Krapfen and the plant-based version are available all year round at BILLA and BILLA PLUS, a special creation arrives in the stores around Carnival Tuesday: the Leberkäse Krapfen. Wrapped in tender yeast dough with a sweet apricot jam filling, the aromatic, flavoursome Leberkäse is shown to its best advantage. It has been part of the BILLA and BILLA PLUS range for several years now, and this year it will be indispensable around carnival - and is still available for a short time in the delicatessen section of the supermarkets.

For all those who want to prepare fresh Leberkäse Krapfen at home, BILLA is now offering the new oven-baked Leberkäse from Hofstädter in the Classic, Cheese and Pepperoni varieties in 500g packs from the chiller cabinet. The pork comes 100 per cent from Austria and can be prepared in the oven at around 200°C in 30 to 40 minutes. Roasted until golden brown, it is a delight with or without Krapfen.
